Sony Fx6 Monitor Related Information

The Sony FX6 Monitor is a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to the C300 Mark III. It’s a lightweight 4K camera with lots of features, including 4K recording and an OLED viewfinder built into the body. In this review, we’ll go over everything from the great image quality that comes with this camera all the way down to what’s included in its box. So let's get started!

Sony FX6 Monitor Review

Sony FX6 Monitor Review

The Sony FX6 Monitor In a Box is an affordable alternative to the C300 Mark III. It provides you with all the features of a high-end camera monitor and is perfect for those who want to shoot in manual mode and do their own color grading.

The Sony FX6 has been designed by professionals for professionals, but it’s also easy to use by beginners. The menu is simple and intuitive, which makes this product an excellent choice for anyone looking to get started in cinematography or video production.

The Great Cost-Effective Alternative to the C300 Mark III

The Sony FX6 is a great camera for the price. If you’re looking for a cost-effective alternative to the C300 Mark III, this camera will serve you well. The FX6 has many features that are comparable to those of its more expensive counterpart: it can record 4K video at 60 frames per second, and it also supports RAW image capture in both XAVC-I and XAVC-L formats.

You can use an external recorder like an Atomos Ninja or Odyssey 7Q+ with the Sony FX6 if you want to add professional-looking slow motion footage and other effects to your videos.

The Sony FX6 is packed with features that make it competitive with higher priced cameras like RED or ARRI cameras (which are typically used by filmmakers).

Sony FX6 Monitor in a Box

The Sony FX6 monitor comes in a box. It's not very heavy, and it's made out of cardboard. The box has a handle for you to carry the monitor around with, which is convenient because you might have to move your computer around from time to time.

It's important to know that the box is the right size for carrying around the monitor itself.

What’s Included in the package

The Sony FX6 monitor comes with a wide variety of features and accessories that make it an excellent choice for both photographers and videographers.

There are two different versions of this monitor: the FX6 and the FX6M. Both models have the same specs, but one uses external power while the other uses internal batteries. Both monitors also include:

  • Sony FX6 Monitor

  • Sony FX6 Monitor in a Box

  • Cage (in case you need to mount the monitor)

  • VF-100 Viewfinder (for eye relief)

  • VF-100 Viewfinder Cable (for connecting to a tripod)

  • AC Power Adapter * AC Power Adapter Cable (connects to your camera or battery pack)

Does it come with a Cage?

Yes, it does come with a cage. It’s a great cage for the price, and the quality of this monitor is good (for the price).

It’s a solid cage.

First Impressions of the FX6 Monitor

I've had the Sony FX6 monitor for about a week now, and I'm impressed. As a stills shooter I don't have much use for it, but it's very nice for video work. The extra screen real estate is great for shooting in portrait orientation or showing multiple angles at once (video).

Before getting the FX6 I was using two monitors: one iPad Pro 12.9" and an Apple Thunderbolt display 27". Using these two made editing from them feel cramped and slow because they were both 1080p screens that couldn't be rotated 90 degrees in either direction like the new iPad Pro can. To get around this issue I would turn off one of my monitors while editing so I could have more room on my desk top; this didn't look great as I'd have to turn off one of my computers just to get additional space in front of me! Now that I have a single 4K monitor that rotates 90 degrees on each side (think big tablet) everything feels much more natural while editing photos or videos.

The only downside so far has been finding software that supports resolution scaling properly without introducing any issues with playback speed or quality loss (especially when rendering clips out). This is likely something related to Nvidia drivers rather than anything specific about this product though - mostly because every other program seems fine with scaled resolutions now after doing some troubleshooting workarounds (like lowering graphics card settings until something works).

Let’s Talk About the Sony FX6 Monitor Design

The Sony FX6 Monitor is a small, lightweight camera that many professionals use as an alternative to the C300 Mark III. It’s also a great value for the money.

Let’s talk about its design:

  • The Sony FX6 Monitor comes with two batteries and can record up to 10 hours of footage on one battery charge.

  • It has interchangeable lenses so you can use different lenses depending on your needs.

Tech Specs

The Sony Fx6 comes with a 24" 1080p VA panel, which is bright and has good contrast. The screen is 16:9 and offers a 60 Hz refresh rate. It's also equipped with VESA mounts on the back of the monitor so you can mount it on a wall or attach it to a stand (included).

The monitor supports AMD FreeSync technology, reducing input lag when playing video games by syncing the refresh rate of your display device to match that of your graphics card.

You can attach this monitor using an HDMI cable or two DP cables, both sold separately

DAILY TECH SPECS

The weight of the Sony FX6 Monitor is 2.66 LBS (1.21KG)

The dimensions of the Sony FX6 Monitor are 6.3″ X 5.0″ X 3.1″ (160 x 128 x 80MM)

This means that you cannot use this monitor with a laptop or on your lap for long periods of time. It’s too heavy, so it would be impractical to move around much anyway.

It’s heavier than most monitors because it has an anti-glare screen which adds weight and thickness to the monitor itself.

Physical Controls on the Outside of the Sony FX6 Monitor

The Sony FX6 monitor's physical controls are on the outside of the screen. They include:

  • A power button that turns on and off your monitor

  • A mode button to choose from different settings, including normal, cinema and game modes

  • A focus ring that adjusts how sharp or blurry your image looks based on what you're looking at (close objects require a smaller focal point than faraway ones)

  • A zoom ring for zooming in or out of whatever you're watching

PHYSICAL CONTROLS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE SONY FX6 MONITOR INCLUDE…

  • Power switch

  • SDI/HDMI connectors

  • DC power connector

  • HDMI output port (19-pin) that can be used to connect the monitor to a digital device, such as a camera or computer. This port is also compatible with DVI and HDCP signals, so it can accept video from computers without adapters. The HDMI input port (19-pin) on the Sony FX6 allows you to connect other devices, such as computers and cameras, so they can display their content on your monitor screen. You can use this port for digital or analog signals; however, if you want to view content in high definition (HD), then you'll need an adapter cable that converts DVI signals into HDMI ones. An HDMI cable will also come in handy if you want to watch movies on your new Sony FX6 monitor because it supports surround sound formats like Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 through its built-in audio jack.* DC power connector* 3 USB ports — one is USB 3.0 while two others are USB 2.* 3-5mm headphone jack for connecting earphones/headphones.* 3-5mm microphone jack

Conclusion

The Sony FX6 Monitor is a solid camera that is easy to use and has a lot of great features. The Sony FX6 Monitor has many things going for it including its price, ease of use, and build quality. If you are looking for a good alternative to the C300 Mark III then this may be the right choice for you.

The user interface of the PortKeys LH5P is not its most significant strength, to say the least. When I purchase or review a product, I never read instructions (like most filmmakers, I am assuming), which means a product must be intuitive. I think you should be able to give a monitor to any camera assistant and everybody must be able to make it work without reading a book. That is not the case with the LH5P.

According to the company, they had to use “an off the shelf 0.8A x1 or 0.6A x 2 PCB for the charger to sit within the Micro USB specification (2.1A x 5V = ~10W total, minus the loss in efficiency).” This results in long charging times. To fully charge two batteries, it took me close to eight hours.

In theory, this combo should work very well. The Portkeys BM5 monitor (for detailed specs see our article here) is a 5” FHD monitor which allows via a separate cable to display and change settings in the camera’s menu on the touchscreen – on our early prototype this didn’t work though and a newer firmware wasn’t yet available.

On the left side, the P6 features two HDMI ports (input/output) that accept 4K signals. Also, in the middle of the HDMI ports, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack output. At the bottom of the monitor, there is a DC 7.4-24V barrel input/output port that you can use to power the monitor or power your camera. Finally, there is a USB-A port for future firmware upgrade, loading your own LUTs, or charge your smartphone (5V output).

Is the Volta Cinema Top Handle perfect? Of course not, and like most products, it could be improved. But, I have mixed feelings about it. While the product feels incredible when you use it, many small details (the stickers, battery charger, monitor mount, etc..) make me a bit worried about its longevity.

This PortKeys BM5WR professional-grade monitor is the gold standard for outdoor shoots, with an insanely bright 2200-nit screen and a 1000:1 contrast rating. Those specs ensure flawless colors, and it comes equipped with a multitude of monitoring tools used for setting exposure.

In terms of direct comparison, the Soonwell PH70 battery handle retails for $279.00; it has double the Volta Cinema Top Handle’s capacity, but you can’t change batteries, and it is a lot bigger. Plus the Soonwell handle we have at our CineD headquarters can’t be turned on or charged anymore after it wasn’t used for about three months. For the price, it’ll be hard to beat the Volta Cinema option.

Finally, the Volta Cinema Top Handle has three 1/4″-20 mounting points at the handle’s back. The threading is really thin, and the metal is not thick here. While this is nice to have mounting points to store screws, I wouldn’t mount a camera accessory to it, even if I don’t see it breaking at all.

You can activate numerous monitoring tools at the same time to help you. I’m not sure if i’s a bug or something regular, but you can “only” activate two scopes at the same time between Luma Histogram, Luma Waveform, and RGB Waveform. You can’t start all three at the same time. However, you can activate two scopes and peaking/guides/grids at the same for example. All in all, monitoring tools are fine.

As a direct frustration with Tilta’s Nano motor which required a very specific input to perform well, I decided to have a go at designing a solution. Oskar joined me again so this time we actually ended up launching an Indiegogo campaign. At the time we didn’t have much of a prototype but the idea was clear: Someone had to put some high-capacity cells inside a top handle since it was such a mandatory piece of kit. Why not us?.

Indeed, a great on-camera monitor must be as color accurate as possible and be as close to “what you see is what you get” as possible. If your monitor colors are not correct, you won’t see your footage the way it’s supposed to be. For example, when a monitor’s colors are wildly inaccurate, you can see orange when you’re supposed to see yellow or red. It can affect how you’ll set your camera’s white balance or exposure, for example.

First of all, the two Allen screws are not imperial, which is arguably more often used in the filmmaking world; they are metric-standard. Next, the screws were so tight I thought I would break them before even using the monitor mount. I had to put the round piece in a vice to unscrew these two screws finally. That’s not cool, but everything is in place, so let’s install it on the top handle!.
