The Portkeys PT6 is a lightweight 5.2-inch on-camera touchscreen monitor with an impressive budget/feature ratio, all in a very compact form factor.
The housing of the PT6 is made of robust polycarbonate and ABS that helps keeps the weight down to only 170g/6oz (without battery).
This monitor has a maximum brightness of 600nits, perfect for shooting indoors or in a controlled studio environment. The 10-bit (8+2 FRC) panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, which means no color banding, accuracy, and true-to-life color reproduction. This 5.2-inch monitor has a FullHD 1920 x 1080 resolution, a large 178° viewing angle, and a 1500:1 contrast ratio.
On the left side of the monitor, you’ll find an HDMI input port that can take resolutions up to 4K DCI at 24fps or 4K UHD at up to 30fps. On the right end side, an HDMI output port with a maximum resolution of 1080p60 allows you to output a clean video feed. Furthermore, the HDMI output can also display a video signal with a 3D LUT, anamorphic de-squeeze, and image adjustments such as contrast, brightness, and tone modifications.
But don’t let the compact form factor of the PT6 fool you, as it is packed with many professional monitoring tools, including:
- Exposure tools: Luma and RGB Waveform, Histogram, and Zebra to accurately expose the image.
- 3D LUT monitoring and 3D LUT HDMI output. You can load custom LUTs via the USB port on the left side of the monitor.
- False Color and ARRI False Color mode.
- A new Peaking algorithm with a Peaking Frame feature so your camera’s UI can stay clear.
- Customized image crop to zoom in anywhere in the image.
- Framing guides, grids, aspects.
- Audio meters, and you can also monitor your audio signal via the 3.5mm headphone jack on the left side of the PT6.
- Anamorphic image de-squeeze with all the standard ratios (1.33x, 1.5x, 2.0x) and the possibility to enter a custom aspect ratio from 0.25 to 4.0x.
- Stretch leg tool: when shooting vertically, you can stretch the bottom part of the image.
- Sharpness, chroma, brightness, backlight, tint, and color temperature adjustments.
In terms of power, you’ll find a dual built-in battery plate at the back of the monitor that accepts either Sony NP-F or Canon LP-E6 batteries. With an extremely low power draw of only 6W, a single Canon LP-E6N battery pack can give you up to three hours of battery life!
Also, the 5V USB-A port on the left side and the 5.5mm barrel connector on the right side of the PT6 provide additional power inputs.
