5 Monitor Hood Related Information

Over the years, I have been using computers on a daily basis. This has made me realize that monitor hoods are an essential part of using your computer. A monitor hood will not only protect your monitor but also save energy and improve the quality of light.

In this article I will explain how to make a good quality monitor hood at home with little effort or cost.

A little research and after reading the maker's instructions

  • A little research and after reading the maker's instructions

I wanted to make my own monitor hood as I am using two monitors and i'm a user of Adobe products. The monitor hoods that were on the market were either too expensive or had terrible reviews.

I wanted to make my own monitor hood as I am using two monitors and i'm a user of Adobe products.

The main problem was that I couldn't find a good place for the monitor mount. So, I designed this one in Fusion 360 by creating a box with rounded corners. The dimensions are: height=110mm, width=150mm and length=470 mm. For the monitor mount I used 2 brackets from Ikea (Vittsjo).

The monitor hoods that were on the market were either too expensive or had terrible reviews.

As you may have noticed, I am a writer. I write for a living and spend most of my time on the computer. That means that if there is one thing I need in my office, it’s an effective monitor hood to keep me from getting light-headed while working at night. However, finding the right monitor hood has been difficult because many of them are too expensive or have bad reviews.

If you’re looking for something similar, hopefully this article will help you out!

After getting to know the software and the hardware, I started the design phase.

After getting to know the software and the hardware, I started the design phase. Designing a monitor hood was a lot of trial and error. I had to make sure I had the right measurements, that it would be sturdy enough to hold up two monitors, and that it would not take up too much space on my desk.

The first step in designing this product was figuring out how big my desk would be based on where I wanted to put everything in relation to each other. This included making sure there was enough room for both monitors to sit comfortably without being too close together or too far apart from each other; also making sure they aren’t going anywhere while they are mounted onto the monitor hood itself which means having sturdy brackets but also keeping them aesthetically pleasing so as not clash with your overall aesthetic when having guests over or showing off at a job interview etc.).

Having measured my monitors correctly, I set about designing my hoods.

Before you can start designing your hood, you need to measure the monitors.

Measure the height and width of each monitor. The measurements should be taken from the top-left corner to the bottom-right corner on both sides of each screen. Make sure that you take into account any bezels or frames around the actual display area of your monitors, as this will impact how much room you have for placing things inside the hood.

Once you have all of your measurements, it’s time to make a sketch of what it is that you want for a monitor hood! I wanted something simple so I drew out some rectangles in Adobe Illustrator and then started measuring again to see where everything would fit best (image below).

I made a sturdy, stylish and affordable monitor hood.

The monitor hood is made of a sturdy material that is easy to work with. The material is easy to clean and maintain, so you can use it at home or on the go. With a stylish design and affordable price tag, this monitor hood is perfect for anyone looking for an alternative to store-bought options. It's also easy to transport—it folds up into a compact size that fits in any bag!

The built-in light diffuser makes it even more versatile: when opened, it provides maximum protection from glare while still allowing some light through; when closed, the screen can be viewed without glare but without losing all the ambient light around you (like when reading outside).

I am very proud of this design. It is sturdy, stylish and affordable. I have had a lot of positive feedback from other users who have tried to make their own monitor hoods and it has been great to see how they like my design. If you want more information on how to make one yourself then please contact me on my email address below or visit my website where I will be happy to help!

On the PortKeys LH5P, there are one HDMI input port and one HDMI output port. The monitor supports a maximum input resolution of DCI 4K at 24p, 4K UHD at up to 30p, and FullHD at up to 60p. I tested all three with a Panasonic GH5 and did not get any issues, may it be on the input or output side.

The PortKeys LH5P is mostly made out of aluminum with tempered glass in front of the screen. It doesn’t feel like it will break if you drop it, even if I don’t advise you to do so. The buttons’ are plastic, and they feel a bit “clicky,” it’s not incredible, but they’re ok.

However, I found the small dividers not high enough. When you have small items (batteries or memory cards, for example) in a tiny space separated by a partition, they tend to move around in your bag, get out of their dedicated space, and end up hitting other items inside the bag.

On the Black Mini, there is only one HDMI input port. The monitor supports a maximum input resolution of UHD at up to 30p and FullHD at up to 60p. My findings are a bit different from the manufacturer’s claim of “4K 60Hz”, but it’s already pretty good.

The Portkeys PT5 is made from ABS plastic, which helps keep the weight down at only 130g/0.28lbs. Also, it is very compact at 136 x 72 x 17mm in terms of dimensions, so it should not take that much space in your camera bag.

However, comparing the E2 to other cinema cameras in this sensor class the competitor BMPCC4k cannot be neglected. The BMPCC4k is significantly less expensive, has a large build in screen (5”) and allows internal ProRes as well as 12bit RAW recording (Blackmagic raw). Also, Blackmagic managed to squeeze out 0.8 stops more dynamic range.

The concept of a handle that can power your camera is not new, with products like the Soonwell PH70. However, I’m not too fond of products that have built-in batteries. It means that once you run out of battery, you have no way to pop a fresh battery pack and continue shooting. It’s a no-go for me in professional shooting conditions.

I have tried this option in practice but quickly abandoned it for moving shots, as the motion blur (or partial lack thereof) of the resulting image looks weird. It may work for a static interview though, or a situation where the scene demands a higher shutter speed (1/200 and up).

In theory, this combo should work very well. The Portkeys BM5 monitor (for detailed specs see our article here) is a 5” FHD monitor which allows via a separate cable to display and change settings in the camera’s menu on the touchscreen – on our early prototype this didn’t work though and a newer firmware wasn’t yet available.

This can seem quite simple. However, to access these pages, you have to swipe the monitor in various directions to go to the desired page. For example, for the System page, you have to swipe left. For the function page, it’s a swipe on the right. The Control Settings page needs a swipe down and a swipe up for the motor page. It’s not easy to memorize, and there’s no visual indication of the page you’re currently in. But it doesn’t end there.

Once in place, it works nicely, but I had issues getting it in. Indeed, it came in two pieces in the box: the round part that slides in the handle and the piece that attaches to your monitor. I had to unscrew the two screws on the round piece to assemble the monitor as one piece like it should be.

The display has a resolution 1920 x 1080 resolution, with a maximum brightness of 500 nits. It is also a touchscreen display to navigate inside the menu. However, this brightness will fall slightly short in bright daylight shooting conditions, so I would not call it a daylight viewable monitor.
