Action Monitor Related Information

The action monitor is a software solution for monitoring processes. It can be used to create and manage semaphores and it allows you to add, stop and start processes. The first thing the action monitor does is create a semaphore with maximal value 1. Then it gets the semaphore and waits until the process has been started or stopped (it should be noted that if you get a task manager that contains more than one process then this means that something went wrong). When the semaphore has been acquired then we look at our task manager again to check if there are more tasks than one (if so then something went wrong). If there are no more tasks then we repeat all steps again starting with step 2 above

action monitor

Action Monitor is a software solution for monitoring processes. It can be used to find out whether a process is running or not.

create a semaphore with maximal value 1

To create a semaphore, use the sem_init() function. This function takes two parameters: the number of semaphores you want to create and a pointer pointing to where you would like your semaphore array stored. For example, if we wanted to create one-hundred integer values and store them in an array named "my_array", we could do something like this:

  • Create a new array with 100 elements with malloc().

  • Initialize the first element of my_array with 1 using the initializer list syntax: [:my_array] = 1 (note that this is not an assignment statement).

get the semaphore

  • Import the semaphore module.

import semaphore

  • Create a semaphore with maximal value 1.

semp = semaphore(1) * Get the semaphore lock by calling acquire() on it. This is only successful if there are no other threads that have acquired this lock at this moment in time. If there's an attempt to acquire a locked lock (and release() was not called), then python will raise a RuntimeError exception and execution will be terminated immediately.

lock = semp.acquire() * Release the lock using release(). This can only be done after other threads have acquired or released locks on their own respective instances of this object; otherwise, it'll raise an exception because its state doesn't match anymore!

semp = 0 # resetting unlocked count to 0 means we want it held indefinitely now so no one else can get in while we're still holding onto this one

when the semaphore is acquired, look at the task manager

when the semaphore is acquired, look at the task manager

In this case, you can see that there are 3 processes waiting to get access to the resource. This means that when you read from your file (you do want to do this regularly), you must release the semaphore first before reading from it again. If you don't release it, another process will take over and try to acquire it for itself, which would result in a deadlock because no other process could be given access either

if the process is absent, then add it to the task manager

To monitor a process, you have to add it to the Task Manager.

If the process is absent, then add it to the task manager.

If the process is present, then the process is already being monitored by another application or service.

If the process is running, then it is already being monitored by another application or service (this can be caused by multiple instances).

If the process is not running, then there may be an issue with how you're adding this program to your PC.

if the process is running and it should be stopped, then stop it and remove it from the task manager

If the process is running and it should be stopped, then stop it and remove it from the task manager.

If you want to remove the process from Action Monitor, right click on the process name and select "Stop". Then, right click on the same name again and choose "Remove" from here.

if the process is not running and it should be started, then start it and add it to the task manager

If the process is not running and it should be, then start it and add it to the task manager. If the process is already running, then you should stop it and remove it from the task manager.

when the semaphore is released, look at the task manager again

Once the semaphore is released, check the task manager again.

If there are more tasks than one, go to step 2.

if there are more tasks than one, then got to step 2.

If you have more than one process, then go to step 2. In our case, we only have one process and it's already running, so we can skip this step and proceed to the next step.

The next question is: which processes do I want to monitor? You can only monitor processes that are already running. If they aren't running yet, they'll be ignored by [your_monitoring_tool].

Now that we've picked a set of processes to monitor, let's move on to the next step: whether or not those processes should be stopped or started when you start monitoring them (or whatever). In our case, since all three of our service daemons were already running before we launched [your_monitoring_tool], let's say that we want them all left alone—we don't want any changes made at all!

The action monitor is a software solution for monitoring processes.

The action monitor is a software solution for monitoring processes. It allows you to view and manage your processes, create new ones, and run them in the background while you work on other tasks.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed reading this overview of the action monitor. I know it was a lot to take in, but now that you have all the information you need, you can start using it right away!

However, if we do some maths: the LEYE II draws around 3W max, a Canon LP-E6N battery has an 1800 mAh capacity and a 7.2V voltage, so you should get a little over 4 hours of runtime (V x Capacity / P = 7.2 x 1.8 / 3) with one battery, which is fantastic.

In a lot of ways, the Portkeys PT5 reminds me a lot of the SmallHD 501, which is still to this day my favorite 5″ on-camera monitor. It’s compact, lightweight, with good battery life, and it just feels like it’s part of your camera. The good thing is that the PT5 is a fraction of the SmallHD 501’s price, and it even has a way better battery life, but it doesn’t have SDI input/output ports. So you can’t have the cake and eat it too.

Most of the time, you can’t use a probe or spectrophotometer to adjust your on-camera monitor. It means that you’ll have a hard time trying to calibrate it correctly by hand with only a few built-in picture adjustment tools at your disposal in the menu system. In short, on-camera monitors must be as good as possible out of the box with minimal color adjustments needed by the end-user.

When it comes to the E2, the added benefit of this connection, is the ability to record ProRes RAW directly on the Atomos Ninja V. (At this stage, there is no word from Atomos if ProRes RAW recording will be implemented on other members of the E2 family of cameras).

You got it; both monitors are very similar, so what’s new? One of the biggest caveats of the LH5H is its full-plastic construction. The PortKeys LH5P is built with aluminum alloy, which makes it more resistant to field life. Also, it looks slightly thinner than its predecessor, but the LH5P is heavier at 250g vs. 170g for the LH5H.

The concept of a handle that can power your camera is not new, with products like the Soonwell PH70. However, I’m not too fond of products that have built-in batteries. A monitor of this size and weight makes a lot of sense to use with a small and lightweight battery, like a Canon LP-E6 pack, which is around 50 grams. Indeed, for example, a Sony NP-F 970 battery is 350g, which is twice the monitor’s weight; it looks a bit ridiculous. Also, Canon LP-E6 batteries are the same I use to power my Canon EOS R. I only have to use and carry one type of battery on set.
