How To Calibrate Touch Screen Monitor Related Information

If you've ever used a touchscreen on a notebook or tablet, then you know how frustrating it can be when the touch screen stops working correctly. The cursor jumps around, taps aren't recognized and the whole experience becomes unusable. It also makes using some programs really difficult, such as when trying to make selections in menus or move objects around on a screen with your finger. So how do you fix this problem?

For Windows 7 and older:

  • Open the Control Panel and select Display

  • Right-click on the Touchscreen icon and choose Calibrate from the drop down menu

  • Click Continue when prompted by Windows 7 or earlier versions of Windows

  • Select your calibration method and follow the on-screen instructions to complete calibration

Adjust the cursor speed

  • Open the Mouse Properties window:

  • Click the Pointer Options tab:

  • Move the cursor speed slider to set your desired cursor speed, moving it to the left slows down your mouse, while moving it to the right speeds up your mouse:

  • Click OK when you've selected a setting that works well for you

Calibrate the touchscreen

Calibrating the touchscreen is a simple process that can be done in less than a minute. Here’s how to do it:

  • Windows 7

  • Windows 8

  • Windows 10

For Windows 8 and newer:

  • Open Control Panel.

  • Click Tablet PC Settings, which is usually in the Display section of Control Panel’s left pane.

  • Click Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input at the bottom of this page to run Windows 8 or newer's built-in calibration utility (if you're using an older version of Windows, skip ahead to Step 4). This will open a new window containing your computer's current calibration settings (see Figure 1 below). If you see "Calibrate now" written on this page, click that text instead of following Steps 3 and 4 here; it will take over from there automatically as we describe below in Step 5!

  • To calibrate manually instead of letting Windows do it automatically after pressing Esc or Cancel within 10 seconds (which happens if you don't have any calibration device plugged into your machine), click Advanced Options at the bottom right corner before proceeding with Step 5 below—this option lets users set custom values for brightness and contrast levels without having any hardware connected first."

Open Control Panel.

To open Control Panel, press Windows key + R. Type control panel, and then click OK.

Click Tablet PC Settings.

To calibrate your touch screen monitor, follow these steps:

  • Click Start.

  • Click Control Panel.

  • Click Tablet PC Settings.

  • Click Calibrate the Screen for Pen or Touch Input and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration

Click Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input.

Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input by following these steps:

  • Click Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete calibration.

Click Calibrate.

When you click Calibrate, the Touchscreen Calibration window appears.

Touchscreen calibration is now complete. The settings you selected will be applied to your touchscreen. You can also choose to exit calibration mode by clicking Exit Calibration and restarting the computer if necessary.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration.

  • Calibration is completed when the crosshairs in the center of your screen are centered on each other.

  • You can adjust the size of the crosshairs by dragging the corners of their box, which you'll find in your top-right corner. The box will change size as well, so don't worry if it's too big or too small for your liking at first! Just keep adjusting until it fits properly and then press OK to proceed with calibration.

If your touchscreen is not working correctly on your notebook or tablet in Windows 7, 8(8.1) or 10, even after installing the latest Synaptics or ELAN Touchpad driver, try some of these tips to fix this issue.

If your touchscreen is not working correctly on your notebook or tablet in Windows 7, 8(8.1) or 10, even after installing the latest Synaptics or ELAN Touchpad driver, try some of these tips to fix this issue.

  • Reboot the computer and see if it helps (you may need to reboot several times).

  • Try a different driver for the touch screen (check what drivers are installed with Device Manager).

  • Try a different touch screen that has the same specifications as yours (check out our list of recommended products).

  • Use a different calibration tool/utility from within Windows that might work better than the one provided by your manufacturer or OEM.

Conclusion

We hope we’ve helped you to fix your touchscreen. If you have any other questions or need more help, just leave us a comment below!

You got it; I love when I’m working with and not against an on-camera monitor. A third-party monitor should feel like a natural addition to your rig and not an add-on that you don’t want to bring/mount on your camera.

First of all, the two Allen screws are not imperial, which is arguably more often used in the filmmaking world; they are metric-standard. Next, the screws were so tight I thought I would break them before even using the monitor mount. I had to put the round piece in a vice to unscrew these two screws finally. That’s not cool, but everything is in place, so let’s install it on the top handle!.

However, the original PortKeys LEYE had one major drawback: you need to power it externally. For example, suppose you have a small DSLR/mirrorless/cinema camera. In that case, you probably don’t want to unnecessarily rig your camera with V-Mount batteries or a power bank only to feed an EVF.

As I mentioned, the Portkeys PT5 does not have any physical buttons, and all the navigation is via the touchscreen. I’m glad there are only pages, as it is relatively easy to operate and understand, but there are also some drawbacks like the numerous fingerprints the screen will accumulate.

To power the camera, you can use Sony NP-F batteries or use the DC 12V 5A LEMO power port. In terms of input/output, you’ll find an HDMI input and HDMI output ports on the left side of the LH5H, as well as a 3.5mm jack output, but no SDI ports. The LH5H is an “entry-level” monitor, perfect for DSLR/Mirrorless camera users. If you need both HDMI and SDI ports, the BM5 II is more suited for you. Also, the PortKeys LH5H is made of plastic, not metal, with a weight of just 170g/0.37lbs.

However, for the past four years, I finally found some solutions that work for me. I purchased and used Manfrotto rolling bags – including the Pro Roller Bag 70 and Reloader Air-55 Pro – and they’ve been real workhorses. They’ve been a joy to use and what carries all my camera equipment 99% of the time. The Windows vs. macOS debate is as big as the backpack vs. rolling case one, but both solutions have pros and cons.

The answer is yes. I had no issues at all – the build quality of both monitor and camera is top notch, and there was no overheating of both devices. The monitor has a fan which I turned down to the lowest setting to avoid picking up the sound, so it got very very hot. It still worked reliably.

The Portkeys PT5 only has one 1/4-20″ mounting point at the bottom, which is the same as the LH5P that I already reviewed, so that I would have the same complaints: one mounting point is often not enough for an on-camera monitor, and 3/8-16″ mounting points with ARRI locating pins are more versatile.

As you can tell, even my iPhone 11 is more significant than this monitor! Indeed, the Portkeys PT5 has dimensions of only 136 x 72 x 17mm for a weight of 130g/0.28lbs. I was shocked at how light it is when I took the PT5 out of the box; it weighs almost nothing, mainly because the casing is made of ABS plastic.

All in all, it is a good monitor, but I didn’t like one detail: it only takes 1080p signals via HDMI, although the Z CAM E2 could provide a 4k signal. Hence, you have no good way to judge focus on the monitor itself for a 4k HDMI signal, as neither punching in (1:1 pixel view) nor the in – built focus peaking of the monitor would display this signal accurately.
